Rower 1 – JLL R200

I have reviewed quite a few JLL products and they do not seem to have many complaints. Their products are of a high quality and they adhere to the company’s warranty.

Let’s look and the pros and cons:

Pros:

  • 10 level of magnetic resistance
  • Advanced belt driving system
  • 7 function monitor
  • Foldable
  • Great price
  • 12 month warranty

Cons:

  • Max weight is only 100kg

The JLL is a great home rower. It provides everything you need in a quality rower. JLL is renowned for it’s great customer service so should you ever need any kind of assistance, they will be on hand to help out. You will enjoy a great rowing experience with this machine. The only slight downside is the weight capacity. It will only take up to an individual weighing up to 100kg, so those that are heavier than this will have to look at options 3 or 5.

My Rating: Great machine from a great company at an even greater price. Put the work in, and you shall experience great results with the R200.

Rower 2 – Nice Day

This rower is definitely different from the norm. Instead of using a cable pulley mechanism, Nice Day use a hydraulic system. If you have never used this kind of rower, then you will notice the difference right away. Not in a bad way, but in a very different way. Nonetheless, it is a great rower, that offers a calorie burning and muscle toning workout. Let’s look at what else it offers:

Pros:

  • 12 levels of resistance
  • Smooth and comfortable seat
  • Foldable
  • Great price
  • Hydraulic system.

Cons:

  • Max user weight is 100kg
  • Those that prefer cable pulley system, may not take to this.

If you feel like trying something a little different, then I would definitely recommend this machine. It is very smooth to use and comes at an equally great price. The cons, however, are the user weight, which is only 100kg.

You have probably noticed that I have added the hydraulic system to the pros and the cons list. This all depends on perspectives and preferences. If you are not willing to try something new, then you will see it is a disadvantage, however if you are willing to try something out of the ordinary, then this is an advantage.

My Rating: This rower comes at a great price and will really make you work. It will improve your strength and stamina just as well as it’s counterpart.

Rower 3 – V-Fit Tornado Air Rower

This is a semi commercial grade rower, that is perfect for home use. In a nutshell, the faster you row, the harder it becomes. This is a comfortable rower that would be a great addition to any home gym. It also folds up so can be stored with ease. Let’s see what else it has to offer…

Pros:

  • Semi-commercial grade
  • Foldable
  • 6 function LCD monitor
  • Great price
  • Max weight is 115kg

One thing that makes this rower stand out, is the weight capacity. This makes a significant difference, as most home rowers will only offer a 100kg capacity. It is a very robust rowing machine, as it is semi- commercial grade.

My Rating: Great rower at a great price. It is slightly more expensive than your standard home rower, but definitely worth the extra for what it offers.

Rower 4 – XS Sports R310

This is a strongly built machine, that offers a great rowing experience. As with other home rowers in this price range, it offers a max weight capacity of 100kg.

The XS rower offers a sleek and foldable design, which makes it easy to store. However, even if it is left out, it doesn’t take much space at all. Let’s have a look at what else it gives us…

Pros:

  • Very durable
  • Foldable
  • 10 levels of magnetic resistance
  • Very quiet mechanism

Cons:

  • Max weight capacity is only 100kg

As you can see this rower has the same issue as a few of the others, as it only takes a max weight of 100kg. However, if this is not an issue for you, then this is a fantastic bit of kit. It will fit it to your home gym very nicely.

My Rating: Great machine, with the issue that most other home rowers at this price have, which is the max weight capacity. However, it offers great LCD options and provides a robust frame. Top notch machine.

Rower 5 – Circuit Fitness Hydro Rower

When I began researching top rated home rowing machines, I was hoping I would come across a hydro rower. These are magnificent innovations, that aim to mimic water rowing better than the standard rower. In essence the water is your resistance. The more effort you put into the rower, the greater the resistance. Let’s look at what else we get…

Pros:

  • Sturdy machine
  • Foldable
  • Has multiple modes and in race options
  • Water resistance – close simulation to the real thing
  • Max user weight is 130kg.
  • 2 year warranty – limited

Cons:

  • Some may find it a little on the expensive side.

Although more expensive than the others, this is a lovely rower that offers an alternative to the standard flywheel or air resistance rower. Due to its hydro resistance, this rower gets you pretty close to the real thing (with all the added benefits of not getting wet!).

It is foldable, so stores with minimum effort and it offers a 2 year warranty. This is something you will need to check, as the warranty is limited.

My Rating: A formidable rower that offers a smooth and comfortable fitness experience. A little more expensive than the rest but if you are after a hydro rower specifically, then this is a great option.

The Rower for You

A rowing machine is probably the most underrated piece of cardio equipment that is available, as the treadmill, elliptical and bike get all the attention. These aesthetically pleasing slick maestros are arguably the best machine when it comes to calorie burning, strength and fitness. They are ideal for home training, as they take very little space.

The only issue with a rower, is the weight capacity. Through my research I found that most home rowers only catered for individually who were 100kg or less. However, I did come across one that catered for 115kg and another that catered for 130kg. Other than this, you have the commercial grade Concept rowers, which can hold up to 220kgs. However, the price jumps up significantly one you go commercial.

Any of the above choices would be ideally suited to a home gym. However, the one that stood out to me was the XR 3100. This machine offers a smooth and sleek rowing experience and boasts a very reasonable price.

  1. These machines all look great! It’s been quite a while since I rowed on a machine. I quit back then because of my back. Maybe I should give it a try once more, because it’s fantastic for your fitness, isn’t it.
    Thanks!

It is really laudable that you have illustrated this topic so well in your article. I have learned a lot by reading your article and gained a lot of cognition about it. Of the points mentioned in your article, I like Rower 2. I bought a home Rowing machine to exercise at home.
I basically buy the rower 2 machine which is the best in price and meaning. Those who want to exercise at home can buy this machine.

  3. At the gym I went to before the mandatory quarantines, the rowing machine was always my #1. I never got tired of doing it and saw some serious results. My back never had any muscles prior to starting rowing. Unfortunately, a lot of that muscle mass has since been lost, and I definitely feel like my back is weaker. Some fairly simple house and yard work has started to give me a sore back.

I love that the XR Sports 3100 is foldable and includes the cable pulley system. There’s a certain satisfaction involved with the cable. The limited weight won’t be an issue as i can’t handle much weight anyways (I’m small) and just prefer to row faster if I want to up the challenge. I’m moving soon as well, so foldability is a MUST. Thank yoU!

    • Hey Maria. Yes, the rowing machine is a great piece of equipment. It does play havoc with the back, if you have an injury. However, build the strength back, and there is nothing to say you can’t return to rowing soon. Thank you for the comment and good luck with the move!

  4. Exerciseis one thing that I value so much because I know of its importance to human health, rowing works for several parts of the body but I do target the legs. The towing machined you’ve listed here mostly have the weight problem but I’ve seen one that will be just fine and I will buy it, I like the features of Rower 3 – V-Fit Tornado Air Rower, it has no down side, that’s interesting.

  5.  It would almost feel like rowing in the land instead of water. I really the found last rowing machine nice, It has more weight holding capacity and it actually looks like a boat. You also said that it would be like rowing a real boat hence I kinda want to give it a shot. I have never been to a fully furnished gym, hence I have no idea of all the equipments.
