The Best Rated Stationary Bikes – Make the Right Choice

I’m back, and this time it’s to help you guys choose the stationary bike that will suit your needs. As mentioned in my previous article, cycling is a truly amazing calorie burner. However, you have so many bikes to choose from, that it can become overwhelming.

You ask yourself…”do I need an upright, recumbent, interactive or spin bike”. The answer to this is quite simple. You just have to narrow it down to the following:

  • Are you coming back from injury?
  • Do you need extra support?
  • Are you training for a race?
  • Do you want to compete with friends and family online?
  • Or, do you just want to stay or get fit?

You can ask yourself a thousand questions, however the above will suffice for you to make a valid choice. I will do all the “leg” work for you so all you have to do is make the choice according to your goals. Let’s have a look at the best rated stationary bikes.

Stationary Bike 1 – XS B510 Magnetic

This is a strong bike with a solid frame, at an excellent and affordable price. Let’s see what it offers us:

Pros:

  • Measures 5 variables
  • Comes with a phone/tablet holder
  • Great price
  • In-built pulse monitor
  • Adjustable handles
  • 12 month warranty.

Cons:

  • Max weight capacity is only 100kgs.

We start off with a great choice. This Bike has almost everything you want, at a great price. The only thing that let’s it down is the weight capacity. But if this is not relevant to you, there are no cons. It has an in-built pulse monitor, which eradicates the need for a chest strap. The warranty is for 12 months, which is quite standard.

My Rating: Fantastic value for money and stores away easily. Very well built and so will last a long time. Thumbs up!

Stationary Bike 2 – Interactive Sportstech ESX500

If you are after an interactive bike, then this is definitely a great choice. The Sportstech offers great value for money. It offers the ever growing Kinomap software, which allows you to choose from multiple cycling destinations and terrains. Let’s have a look at what else we can expect from this bike:

Pros:

  • 16 resistance levels
  • 12 pre-installed programs
  • Kinomap technology
  • Interactive multiplayer option
  • USB connection
  • Max user weight is 120kg
  • In-built pulse sensors.

This is a bike for all of you competitive adrenaline junkies! The Sportstech not only offers a great cycling experience, but it gives you the opportunity to race against other Kinomap users.

It allows for a max user weight of 120kg, which is better than many of the other brands. This model also has in-built pulse sensors, so like the XS B510, there is no need for a chest strap.

My Rating: Excellent piece of exercise equipment. Even with all the interactive capability, the Sportstech still comes in at a bargain price!

Stationary Bike 3 – Recumbent Exerpeutic 900XL

In my previous article regarding the types of stationary bikes, I wrote about the recumbent bike. This bike is amazing when it comes to helping those that are coming back from an injury, or have had previous injuries. The back support will allow the rider to build up their strength, instead of having to concentrate on staying upright, without a support. Let’s have a closer look:

Pros:

  • Back support
  • Max weight of 138kg
  • 3 year limited warranty
  • 8 level magnetic tension
  • Easily transportable
  • Hand pulse sensors

I didn’t find any really noticeable cons with this model. The price is fair, for what you get. One of the great advantages of the Exerpeutic is the weight capacity. As previously mentioned, most bikes will have a 100kg max user weight capacity, however this model allows for 138kg, which is brilliant.

My Rating: Great purchase and definitely value for money. Will help in most rehabilitation situations, as well as being perfect for those that want to get fit but need a little extra support.

Stationary Bike 4 – Nero Sports Studio Cycle (Spin Bike)

Spin bikes are made for intense workouts. They are robust, durable and solid machines that are built to last. However, they do require a lot more maintenance than other bikes. The flywheel needs to be lubricated often (depending on usage). I have found a great spin bike, that boasts great value for a great price. It offers us the following:

Pros:

  • You can race live with other cyclists (with the Zwift app)
  • Max weight of 120kg
  • In-built iPad/phone stand
  • In-built pulse sensors
  • Free water bottle
  • Bluetooth ready
  • 5 year warranty.

Cons:

  • Taller user will require a longer seat post.

As you can see, this spin bike is a quality piece of equipment. The interactive aspect it provides makes it an even more attractive option. It is bluetooth ready and offers in-built pulse sensors, which as you know is definitely a plus point. The 5 year warranty that comes with it is an added bonus. Once you have the bike, be sure to remember to download the Zwift app. This will allow you to use all the interactive options.

My Rating: This is definitely one for the risk averse amongst you. It has everything you would want in a spin bike. The only disadvantage it has, is that those over 6ft may need to buy a longer seat post but the customer service is good, and as long as it is in stock, you can have it delivered within a couple of days.

Stationary Bike 5 – Ultrasport F-Bike

Originally, I was going to review 4 of the best bikes available, however, whilst researching, I came across this little powerhouse. It is a sleek little upright stationary bike that packs a punch. Let’s have a look at what else it gives us:

Pros:

  • 8 resistance levels
  • Foldable
  • Maximum user weight up to 100kgs
  • Pulse sensors
  • 2 year warranty
  • Great value for money

You are getting great value for your money with the F-Bike. It has been designed for daily use, and so has a strong frame. The 2 year warranty will give you piece of mind but as long as you take care of it, this should not come into play. It folds up as easy as an ironing board, looks very unassuming, yet still takes a user weight of up to 100kg. This is usually a con, but for the size of this bike, it is definitely a pro.

My Rating: As soon as I found this bike, I knew that I had to include it in this review. For those of you that are lacking space but want a sleek design that will last you, this could be the bike for you. Not to mention it comes at a very reasonable price.

The One for You

I have tried to provide you with bikes for all preferences. Through my research, I found that there are some great quality bikes out there and they do not break the bank. Which ever one you decide to go for, you just have to make sure that it is cared for and maintained correctly. Doing this will ensure longevity of the bike.

Now you are asking yourself, “which one shall I choose?”. When it comes to choosing one out of the five, it depends on personal preference. They all have their advantages, and to be fair, not may disadvantages. Each one will allow you to fulfill your fitness needs. The only 2 that have their unique uses, are the Recumbent bike and the Spin bike.

The recumbent should definitely be considered should the user be coming back from an injury, or has a bad back. It will provide great support whilst using it. The spin bike should be contemplated if the user is considering race training, or wants to mimic a racing bike. It is made for intense endurance and speed.

Overall, picking a bike doesn’t have to be made into a difficult decision. All the above will provide you with a great cycling experience. They are all very easy to maintain, will fit into minimum space and will make a great addition to your home gym. Enjoy the ride guys!

  1. Hey,

I’m so pleased I came across this article. Since the gyms closed in the UK, I have stopped exercising, and I don’t have any gym equipment at home. So I need to start upgrading my home with gym equipment. An exercise bike is where I’m going to start, and I loved exercise bike No. 4. It looked to most compact bike out of the very impressive list.

If I do purchase it, I will let you know how I go with it and give my own review.

Thank you for sharing and keep up the great work.

    All the best,

    Tom

  2. Thank you for such a good article on the best rated stationary bike, I must admit all the stationary bikes you recommend are real beauties. What are some of the things seniors should consider when shopping for a stationary bike, I know many seniors who start exercising at home are interested in stationary bikes but become overwhelmed how to choose the best bike for their age?

    • Hi Jeff, great question. Well, I would definitely recommend the recumbent bike. This is due to the confidence it gives the user. They come with a back support and handles on the side. Anyone who is a little older, or just lacks confidence should definitely start on this type of bike. They can build their fitness up and then eventually (when fitness and confidence is better), they can move onto an upright, if this is something they want to do. The pedal mechanism is pretty much the same on all bikes. The resistance can be altered via the bike dashboard. Thank you for your question. If there is anything else I can help you with, please do not hesitate to contact me.

  3. That’s a great arcticle you’ve got here, thanks! I’m looking to really get my conditioning in tip top shape for boxing, and having some equipment right at home would be nice. Which one would you recommend for not breaking the bank too much? Just looking for a simple one with a bunch of resistance levels.
