I am a true advocate of positive thinking. I believe that thinking this way can change lives, for the better. I know from first hand experience that this type of lifestyle works. If you hope to achieve anything in life, you must start the process of positive thinking. It begins with small steps and then these steps end up transforming into a flight of stairs.
Exercise and positive thinking go hand in hand. You will not get your desired fitness results with negative behaviour. Positive thinking releases your bodies own “happy hormones”, such as serotonoin and dopamine. Coupled with exercise, this is a winning combination.
In this article I will explain how working out at home will enhance your workouts. We will look at the methods you can undertake, before and after workouts, in order do get the best results possible.

The Comfort of Home
Working out at home has so many advantages. From no rushing around to finishing in your own time. Our thought processes change hundreds of times during the day, which means our brains have an unbelievable amount of information to process. We seldom give our poor brains a rest because of our hectic lifestyles.
It is so important to slow down once in a while to let our bodies recover in the right way. Training at home for me, is great because I don’t have to rush my workouts. When our mindset is “go go go!”, we start to stress out. Tell me if i’m wrong, but I am 90% positive that you worry about getting to the gym on time, once you have finished work. If this isn’t you, then the next scenario probably fits the description…do you rush around in the morning so that you can get to the gym before you start work? Yes, I see you nodding your head!
This kind of mindless Tasmanian Devil esq. behaviour will do one thing for you. It will raise cortisol level, which is the hormone you do not want escaping. Now, picture this…you get up and suddenly think “Oh my God, I am late…my alarm didn’t go off, which means I won’t have time to get to the gym!”. Now from the perspective of home training…you get up and look at your clock, However, this time you lay back down for an extra hour because there is no major rush.
Your mentality has suddenly changed. Instead of waking up with negative thoughts and stress, you get up looking forward to your day. This positive attitude will attract so much more positivity into your life. Once your mindset changes, the benefits that comes with it are out of this world.
You start attracting positive people, positive events and your workouts become more enjoyable. The results that you have been working so hard for, start manifesting themselves. Your body changes, but not before your mindset.
Meditation – The Priceless Fitness Tool
When we talk about fitness, most of us automatically think of a six pack, superficial muscles, or the ability to run 20 miles without breaking a sweat. Although these are great benefits of fitness, the most important aspect is the mind. If we fail to train the mind, we will never reach the heights we aspire too.
Meditation was first developed and practiced in India. It was performed in order to achieve the ultimate goal, which is enlightenment. It became a way for monks to block out all the vices of the world and to just concentrate on the source of it all. Many of us call this source God, the Almighty, Energy, Gaia and many other names. It is important not to get lost in all of this, as the main thing is to let the soul guide you through an effortless practice.
Meditation is a form of exercise for the mind, body and spirit. It calms the mind, which in turn slows the body down and thus allows the soul to breathe. This type of calmness will put you in the perfect frame of mind before you start exercising. It doesn’t really matter what type of discipline you will be taking part in because a calm mind, body and spirit will lead to extraordinary and fast results.
There are so many types of meditation that this too can be confusing. I remember when I welcomed this wonderful tool into my world. It was a case of which type of meditation will suit me. I tried Transcendental, different chanting and many others, however, the one that I found the most rewarding was just breathing. Although the other types are great, this simple method of focusing on my breath worked for me.
My Positivity Regime – Ready for Any Challenge!
I wake up in the morning and say thank you to the Universe, for all I have to be grateful for. This is a personal preference for me, as I believe it allows me to connect with everything around me at the very start of the day.
Once I have done this, I meditate for 10 – 20 minutes. A common misconception is that meditation has to be performed for hours on end, and it has to be done in a cross legged position, chanting a mantra. However, this could not be further from the truth. Yes, this is definitely a method, but it is not the only way. You also have to remember that meditation can come in the form of anything that relaxes you, lifting weights, dance, painting, or any other activity that allows you to express your self freely.
I practice lying down, sitting on a chair or sitting crossed legged. Whatever feels comfortable for you is the correct method, i.e. there is no “correct” method. Once I have settled my mind and “cleared the cobwebs”, I am ready for my next meditation session, which is exercising at home.
Meditating once I get up, sets me up for my workout session. I am in such a positive frame of mind that I know I will have a great workout. This type of focus allows me to visualise the body part I am working on, and really concentrate on performing each rep as well as possible. It is a type of focused training that the mind is a huge part of.
It is all to easy to pick up a weight and just go through the motions, but to respect that weight and go through each rep, visualising the muscle contraction is something that requires focus and strength of mind. Not only will this get you phenomenal physical results, but your mind will also grow in strength.
Mind Cards – An Everyday Guide to Happiness
Positivity is the only mindset to have whilst training. As I have previously mentioned, the benefits of this mindset will help you achieve your desires, whether it be exercise or life in general. I recently came across an amazing company called LSW. They produce “Mind Cards”. They have been designed to help you become more mindful of your thoughts and feelings.
Basically, you select a card at random and take the action that is found on the card. If you find positivity hard to come by, then these cards are a great tool for you to use. The cards are selected on a daily basis and you HAVE TO stick to that emotion for the whole day. You can keep the card on you all day, so that you have a constant reminder right beside you.
The cards are split across 5 categories. They are:
- Kindness – Random acts of kindness can help improve your mood and the mood of the person in receipt of the kind deed.
- Ritual – Including rituals into your daily lifestyle can be very beneficial to your overall thought process and mood. Each ritual card has a daily activity, which will keep you on that positivity trail.
- Gratitude – This emotion helps to attract so much more. Appreciate what you have and the rest will follow. Each gratitude card has a daily activity on it, which will help you remain in this state of appreciation.
- Journal – This is a great tool for recording just how far you have come. Each journal card includes a number of questions, that make you think about any life changes you need to make, for the better.
- Reflection – These cards come with quotes written on them. Quotes are a great motivational tool, as they can get you through tough days.
Another great thing about these cards, is that they can be used over and over again. For example, when you pick a kindness card for the first time, you fulfil that action and put it back. If you pick the same card a few months down the line, you can measure your progress by your feelings and how you react to that card. They are such a great tool to have and will not only set you up for a great training session but also a great day (click on the picture to find out more).
Positivity is the Way Forward
When I train, it is with such happiness and gratitude. This has helped me come back from a few injuries. The most testing injury has been my back. Having to deal with it was one of the hardest things I have ever had to face, and i’ve face some obstacles! However, I am coming back stronger.
Working out at home has been such a positive change for me. I am able to complete my positivity regime in the comfort of my own home, and then I can train with discipline, dedication and determination. Exercise and positive thinking are a match that was made in the heavens. Putting these two together will yield amazing results. However, if this is something you can not master, then your results will inevitably suffer.
If positivity is something you are struggling with, then follow me @bee_happy_coaching on Instagram, and I will guide you towards that goal of yours. The Mind Cards are also a great option for you, as they will give you a daily focus. It’s time for you to brush the dirt off your shoulders, take control of your attitude, let go of negativity and let those amazing workout gains come to you without any resistance. You got this!
